Tasting Notes

This Cabernet Sauvignon has a heavy appearance at first. It is clear, with a deep garnet colour, giving an impressive Old World image. When I swirl it in the glass, the legs appear quickly and frequently, slowly releasing its bouquet.

Please don’t rush to smell and taste it. It needs some time to open up after decanting. Around 15–20 minutes seems to be enough for it to start opening.

This wine has medium aroma intensity. On the nose, you can find primary and secondary aromas such as red apple, sour cherry, vanilla and hazelnut. The winemaker aged it in French oak for 18 months. Perhaps it will show more development year by year, especially on the nose, but at the moment I would describe it as fully developed. It is not showing much more complexity at this stage. I am open to positive surprises. I hope I can taste it vertically with Mr Ozan Diren, and we will smile.

On the palate, the alcohol and acidity seem quite high, although technically it has a medium alcohol level at 14.5%. It is dry, with medium tannin. The tannins have a velvety texture and a rounded character. The body is also medium.

The flavour intensity becomes wider after decanting. I find allspice, nutmeg, bell pepper, black pepper, black cherry and red apple skin, along with the aromas I detected on the nose.

The finish is medium.

Overall, this is a good-quality wine, but I feel it could be better than it is now. I would drink it now, although I cannot decide whether it would benefit from further ageing.
