Heraki, Göküzüm 2023

Tasting Notes

Heraki’s Göküzüm has a golden colour, with a bright and clear appearance. Its viscosity seems similar to Narince character: oily but less heavy than Narince.

You may find its aroma profile interesting. It reminds me of tutti-frutti jewellery from the Belle Époque period. Chamomile and butter add complexity to aromas of grapefruit, banana, red apple and pear.

The acidity and alcohol are balanced. On the palate, the aroma profile loses some of its effect, but the acidity and alcohol protect its longevity and reaction on the palate.

I wonder: if Hernandez tried ancient techniques such as maceration and allowed minimal oxidation to develop tertiary aromas, how would the wine evolve? This wine offers a great opportunity to apply experimental winemaking. Maybe we could also see a coupage with Anatolian endemic grapes blended with Göküzüm at next vintages. A living cultural heritage on the palate—remembering history while blending old and new.

Are you excited?
